Print and keep a first-day sign

Review the preview

Check spelling, capitalization, grade, and year before downloading. The sign is built as vector artwork with live text rendered in the browser. It uses common system fonts, so letter shapes can differ slightly across computers.

Long names may fit tightly. Shorten the displayed name or try a larger paper size in the print preview if needed.

Use the print dialog

Choose Print / save PDF to open the browser print dialog. Pick the intended paper size, inspect margins, and use scaling if the border approaches the edge. Saving as PDF is a feature of the browser or operating system, not a separate site conversion.

For a physical copy, a plain-paper trial catches printer differences before you use heavier paper.

Choose a practical surface

Ordinary paper works if the sign will be held for a quick photo. Cardstock or mounting the page on a board can help it stay flat, but is optional. Avoid glossy paper if reflections make the text hard to read.

Make sure the print is dry before a child handles it, especially with an inkjet printer.

Keep or recycle it

If you want a yearly record, write the date on the back and store it with other family papers. Save the SVG in a folder named by year if you may reprint it.

If you prefer a lighter footprint, keep the digital file and recycle the paper afterward. The tool does not retain a copy for you once the tab closes.

Check the photo setting

The sign may look good on paper yet be hard to read in a photo. Take one test shot at the distance you expect to use and check for glare. Move to even light or turn the page slightly. You can still keep the print if a photo is not practical.
